In
1991, after 13 years of marriage my husband and I were trying to conceive
a 2nd child. I had had numerous surgeries and uterine biopsies without any
luck. Prior to one particular biopsy the office staff checked to see if
my blood beta HCG levels were elevated which would indicate pregnancy. No,
came the answer, and I dreaded to hear it. So I proceeded with the biopsy
where tissue samples were taken, and I left the doctors office frustrated. How long, I thought,
would I have to pay for the mistaken abortion of 15 years earlier? I felt
I was paying the price.I left the office
and headed toward my parish church. I had not been a believer in intercessory
prayers, yet I felt desperate! Maybe, God did want to forgive me! So, I
turned to his mother, Mary. I pleaded with her that I was truly sorry for
the mistake I had made and, from one mother's heart to another, could she
ask her Son for this special gift of life. At that moment, I realized that
the price had already been paid!I went to back
to work and for weeks awaited the biopsy results. They would determine how
much medication I would need the following month to allow conception.But God had a
different plan. The office called to tell me that my results were poor and
that I needed to come by to pick up my prescription. While at the office
I asked if they would run a pregnancy test because I had not started my
cycle. I thought the office staff was going to choke. They kept referring
me to the biopsy results but, because of my persistence, they complied.God in his great
mercy not only heard my "mother's prayer" but answered it in an
awesome way! Lauryn Kathleen Holtzman was born March 17, 1992! What a wonderful
