Mother's
Prayers

T
wo years ago my completely healthy seven-year-old daughter came down with two serious bouts of pnuemonia back-to-back. We had several lung x-rays and a CT scan, all indicating something in the right lobe which was not healing. The doctors indicated it could be a foreign body, a tumor or severe scarring of her lung tissue. After several months of waiting to see if this situation would clear up, the doctors performed an invasive procedure where they ran a camera down her throat and into her lungs to check this out. I was very scared that my daughter was going to require further extremely serious surgery, or that she may be left with a permanent condition affecting her lung health. My husband's oldest child, and his only son, had died of cancer just four years before, so we were very scared. How could we face something like this again?
I prayed like I had never prayed before! I remembered "Embraced" and how Betty learned that a mother's prayers are the strongest of the prayers from earth. I laid in bed each night as the procedure approached, begging God to heal whatever was in her lung....to just take it away.
The day of her procedure finally came. The doctor came out while our daughter was still in surgery to tell us that there was nothing in her lungs. All he could see in both lobes was healthy pink tissue with very little evidence of scarring! He said that whatever had been detected in her previous tests was not there now and that she was fine. When I asked what all the doctors had been seeing on x-ray and CT scan, his response was, "Whatever was there—and there was something there, I saw it too—is gone now. It could have been a mucous plug which dislodged itself, but we can't know for sure. Whatever it was, it's gone now. You can take her home."
We'll never know for sure, but I believe that whatever was there was spontaneously healed by the power of a mother's prayers.
